Family Strong Program

On any given day, approximately 90,000 children and youth in Maryland have a parent under some form of correctional supervision. The Family Strong program focuses on serving the needs of these families through the provision of family strengthening activities, the navigation of academic success, and encouragement of nurturing family relationships. Case managers will work with families to address individual needs and provide opportunities that will ultimately improve the lives of these children, youth, and families.

Helpful Benefits of FSP involvement:

  • Help children with kindergarten readiness
  • Advocate for your child’s heath, educational, and social needs
  • Raise healthy, confident children
  • Develop stronger family supports
  • Create consistency in the home
  • Improve school performance
  • Empower your child, youth, or teenager to succeed in their goals
  • Stay connected as a family

Who is eligible? Youth ages 0-18 (along with their caregivers) with at least one parent currently incarcerated at the Washington County Detention Center (WCDC) or the Washington County Day Reporting Center (WCDRC).
